Description
The great Galli-Curci (1882-1963) hardly needs any kind of introduction. Suffice it to say that her voice was particularly well suited to lilting songs about nightingales, larks, flutes, bells, roses, and tragic ingénues from bel canto opera. This Russian song is very well known, although not often sung in (what appears to be) English. Obviously, I'm being light-hearted; no disrespect intended, it's just that the greatly beloved Italian-American coloratura, probably the most popular singer in America during her day, was not, shall we say, noted for her diction:)
