Description
Chalice came together in Gibraltar Hill, St Mary in 1980 named after a ganja pipe, popular in Jamaica. They built up a reputation as a class act and in 1982 released their debut album, `Blasted’.
Inspired by their success at Reggae Sunsplash the group toured Europe followed by shows in the USA and Mexico where they proved particularly popular throughout the 80s and beyond. In 1990 Chalice were invited to headline the first Mexican Sunsplash. Chalice underwent numerous personnel changes over the years due to the relocation of some members and the death of founding members Mikey Wallace in 1999, Trevor Roper and Robbie Peart, who sadly departed in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
The band reformed in 2006 and headlined events such as Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Rebel Salute, Calabash Festival and a series of international festivals. In 2020 the group celebrated forty years in the business joining in on the longevity of legendary bands such as Third World, The Dragonaires and the Fab Five.
