While American pianist and composer Dustin O’Halloran comes from an indie rock background with his band Devics, he has also released three solo albums to date on the piano – including the live recording Vorleben (2010) – contributed to several film soundtracks and collaborates on an ongoing basis with the post-classical ambient collective A Winged Victory for the Sullen. The 2011 recording Lumiere probably stands at the confluence of these various phases in the musician’s career. On several tracks, Dustin O’Halloran added subtle touches of electronica or delved into classical chamber music with the assistance of the New-York based Acme string ensemble.

The gorgeous “We move lightly” belongs to the cinematic side of Dustin O’Halloran’s music as the track was composed for and features on Like Crazy (a 2011 American romantic drama film directed by Drake Doremus and starring Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence. Written by Doremus and Ben York Jones, the film tells the story of Anna (Felicity Jones), a British exchange student who falls in love with an American student, Jacob (Yelchin), only to be separated from him when she is denied re-entry into the United States after staying in the country longer than her student visa allows) & Ad Astra (a 2019 American science fiction adventure film produced, co-written, and directed by James Gray. Starring Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland, it follows an astronaut who goes into space in search of his lost father, whose experiment threatens the Solar System. The film shares the basic plot of Heart of Darkness, but is set in a sci-fi setting, similar to how Apocalypse Now is set within the Vietnam War)
