Description
I recently discovered this composer while in quarantine and I immediately bought his guitar works.
This is the 2nd movement of a 4 movement work titled the Haitian Suite. 1. Petro, 3. Mascaron, and 4. Coumbite are the remaining movements. Many of his works refer to the names of spirits, "loa", rituals or rhythms from the Voodoo religion. Petro, for example, is the "loa" associated with aggressiveness, restlessness, and anger.
The 2nd movement has another version with lyrics called "Nan Fond Bois". It was released in 1969, on the album Haitiana, featuring Frantz Casseus on guitar and Barbara Perlow on vocals.
