“Sweet Dreams Kuʻu Momi” is an original composition written by Kamalei Kawaʻa, in honor of his great-grandmother, the late Mary Momi Kaililaau Kawai, the last pure-Hawaiian family matriarch. Kamalei recalls fond memories of his great-grandmother sharing stories–from living in the uplands of Kailua, to summers of farming kalo at Papaea. In the presence of her home in Koʻolau, Maui, Kamalei brings these treasured stories to life and features four generations of women from their ʻohana–her daughter, her grandaughter, her great-grandaughter, and her great-great grandaughter. As you enjoy this mele, we hope that you are reminded of your loved ones who have passed, and remember, “ke aloha mau loa–the everlasting love” that will bind you together forever.
