Description

The theme from S.W.A.T. is an instrumental song written by Barry De Vorzon and performed by American funk group Rhythm Heritage, released in November 1975 on their debut album Disco-Fied. It reached number one on the charts in the United States on February 28, 1976.

In addition to S.W.A.T., Rhythm Heritage also recorded Baretta's Theme (Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow) with vocalist Sammy Davis, Jr, in 1975 for the hit TV series starring Robert Blake.

S.W.A.T. is written by Barry De Vorzon, who also penned Nadia's Theme, the theme song for the daytime TV series, The Young and the Restless. S.W.A.T. was produced by Michael Omartian and Steve Barri.

As the title implies, it was the opening theme music for the 1970s TV series, though it's a noticeably different recording from the actual TV theme version, which was performed by Barry De Vorzon's orchestra with arrangement by Dominik Hauser.

The theme song was also referenced by characters in the 2003 motion picture of the same name, who mouthed the notes during a party to celebrate their successful completion of the training course. De Vorzon's original was eventually released on the LP Nadias's Theme on Arista records.
